Dutch robot wins international LEGO competition
It's not often that I see a news story that catches my eye in a heartwarming manner, but this one did. In a world where the big boys of technology (Japan, South Korea and America) are starting to pull streets ahead of the rest of the world, it's nice to see one of the smaller fish have their moment in the spotlight.
Dutch tech team icNRG (an acronym for "I see energy") have beaten all-comers by winning the LEGO Robot Championship. Held in Tokyo, Japan, the contest sees teams designing and building a fully-functioning robot made entirely of LEGO bricks. The Dutch entry, supported by the Technical University of Eindhoven, came first out of 56 finalists from 23 countries, from an initial 10,000 entries.
What makes this story even more heartwarming is that the team consists of three children aged 11, 12 and 15. Who says the Dutch are only good for clogs and windmills?
